There are many amongst us who are in quest of a perfect body. It does not matter what the inner health of a person is or how healthy they look on the outside. The only measure many have is the weighing scale. They need to see the needle on that perfect number and the closer it is to that number, the happier they apparently are.

Some go to the extreme of depriving their bodies of the essential nutrition and food. They decide to adopt some unusual diets. Coffee diet is one example of this. This includes an endless supply of coffee through out the day to replace food of any kind. Along with the endless supply of caffeine, their lunch could be a sandwich with a diet drink, followed by coffee and dinner might be a standard take away.
Caffeine has the tendency to give a person a full stomach feeling. It keeps them awake and alert so they are able to perform their duties at work and the biggest benefit of all, of course, is that they are losing weight and are well on their way to that ideal weight, if any such thing actually exists. This routine may keep the dieter happy for a little while until the long term impact starts to show. The initial signs may be lack of patience and concentration and a feeling of being overwhelmed by work and life in general. It could also result in dizzy spells and finally panic attacks. These symptoms should ring the alarm bell as they could be an indication of a full bloomed anxiety attack which can lead to even further complications.
Relationship between food and normal body functioning is very straight forward. Human brain needs glucose for optimal performance. It uses about 20% of all the glucose that the body produces. So the connection is simple. What a person eats not only has an impact on the physical but on mental health as well. Starving could lead to a wide range of psychological issues. Mood swings and depression are the common ones. Doctors in such cases may recommend a diet rich in proteins and low in carbohydrates to overcome anxiety.
Anxiety in conjunction with bad moods is a lethal combination. Bad mood and negative thoughts can further exacerbate anxiety and it can become a never ending cycle. One of the side effects may be very little or non existent hunger appetite. Physical aspect of this condition may include a constricted throat, nauseous feeling when food is swallowed, and the tendency to throw up. As a result the person eats less and weight loss can at this point become alarming because it actually is out of control and the needle on the scale now is pointing towards a potentially dangerous weight range. This trend in turn could be a cause of further anxiety. But the good thing is this problem can be taken care of with some determination on the patient’s part. The process can be fruitful but it does not happen overnight. A few handy tips to go back to normal eating pattern are given below:
• Always eat breakfast however; small the amount is to begin with
• Try to eat at regular intervals
• Gradually increase the diet. Eating foods that taste good will make one want to eat more of them. So go for options that you really like.
• Eat more of whole grain and raw fruits and vegetables
Meditation and exercise routine is also very helpful in anxiety reduction and development of better eating habits.
